Trainer's Vault

The following are suggestions for which skill not to max commonly chosen by players. Although most are from first-hand experience, some are just research and not tested. Most old stances are tried and proven effective. The new stances are just theoretical and based solely on numbers so expect updates over time. This guide also assumes both stance ring is equipped for optimal effect.

Some stances are PVE or PVP oriented so suggestions for the opposite specialty might prove to be irrelevant. Still, options are given regardless of effectiveness to PVE or PVP.

Given the frequency of new characters the game releases every month, I have provided a basic checklist on determining what not to max below.

1. The checklist only applies for stances with five skills which mostly apply to expert stances. You can max most basic and veteran stances since it contains less than five skill.
2. Check if there are shared skill on the stance, you might not need to choose if you can potentially max it all. These are most prominent for basic stances but also exist for expert stances like Hellena's Forgotten Magic and Occultism Assistance or Christina's Gemma and Flos.
3. Check if there are any skill that doesn't affect anything when leveled up. Some skill stays the same whether its level one, ten, eleven or twelve. Some example of this would be Abyss' Mass Destruction and Machina's Machina Control.
4. There are skills that may benefit on leveling it up but may be useless depending on your purpose for the character. You may want a character's stance specifically for PVP or PVE. Some stances that may have dual purpose includes Rio's Prelude and Valeria's Innocentio.
5. The final criteria will just come down to your preference. It is important to try out the character first and observe what skills are you using frequently and what skills are seldomly used. There may be skills that are stronger in theory but may be impractical to use.
